Community Beat for 20 December

2024-12-20 - EVE Online Community Team

Welcome back, space friends, to the final Community Beat of 2024, your dose of community news from around the cluster!

The latest Pulse video highlighted some shenanigans you got up to across the year, and jolly gosh, you've all been busy! Mixing a bit of the recent with some of the upcoming, Dujek Oneye shared some of the alliance propaganda/art that Brave makes for its Alliance Tournament team. We thought it was too cool not to share:

It highlights the collective efforts of the entire Brave tournament team, including their mercs, both naming pilots and listing their portraits. It even spotlights their first match for the history books. When we discovered this artwork existed, the artwork of previous tournaments also came to light. Honouring the Brave tournament team's commitments and contributions to the tournament is incredible; we could see a work of art like this up inside someone's gaming space! The community team would love to hear if other teams do something similar!

Frigate Fiasco 2v2 Tournament this weekend!

On the topic of tournaments - one more small tournament is coming up this weekend before 2024 draws to a conclusion! On Saturday, 21 December at 17:00 UTC, Dinklebray, alongside Astral Acquisitions, his slew of referees and support staff, are set to run a 2v2 tournament over on Thunderdome - Being streamed by EVE Partner Loru both over on Twitch and on Youtube, the tournament is set up to be an easy, low barrier of entry event where the primary goal is to simply have fun!

The tournament has a few rules (which you can read here) to keep it a level playing field for everyone participating. The regular match length is 3 minutes long (with a potential 5 minutes of increasing-speed negative time dilation if the scores remain equal), so it should be an excellent watch for those getting into competitive play or enjoying watching pretty ship explosions!

Upcoming EVE Meet - EVE Glasgow - 28 December 2024

Glasgow Dunlop also aims to squeeze in the title of final event for 2024 - hosting the next EVE Glasgow player gathering in Scotland at the Bag O'Nails at 16:00 UTC on 28 December. Open to old and new players alike, EVE Glasgow is a great opportunity to meet up and share stories over a few drinks or food! Glasgow Dunlop has a Discord setup for anyone interested in coming along, or alternatively, if you're a Scottish-based EVE Player, hop on in and say hello. You might be pleasantly surprised to find other players nearby!

Ushra'Khan Eve Online's Oldest Alliance 20th Birthday!

On 25 November, U'K celebrated an incredible 20 glorious years of existence. Representing the oldest Alliance in New Eden is a monumental achievement, and it deserves a special mention here. In that time, you could have built nearly 150 Titans back to back.. or even a tiny seedling would have evolved into a full tree. They were here before popular media streaming services existed. Heck, they outlived Blockbuster by becoming a Blockbuster themselves! Well done to Ushra'Khan, and we hope to see them continue to write their tales into the tales of time for many more years to come.

New Eden has seen numerous updates in the last few months alongside the Revenant expansion. The EVE Partners have been hard at work providing extra coverage of some of those things. Let's check a few of them out:

Planetary Interaction Templates

First up, Planetary Interaction Templates were recently added as a work-in-progress feature preview! Those of you who frequent PI will know it can involve a lot of clicking, and PI Templates are here to try and help reduce that by allowing us to save the layouts. EVE Partner Wadd Enderas gave us a breakdown of the feature, how to opt in, and what it's all about—if you're curious to learn how to best use it, check out his video:

The Winter Nexus!

The Winter Nexus event arrived recently as well, and we have a double featurette here - Firstly, Boojum tested a Tengu fit he found works in the Wightstorm Forward Bases—essentially, how to complete some of the PvE content and make some money! If you're looking for an idea for a fit and how to use it, checkout his video:

Loru followed up with a fit and example of how to make the people making money in those sites PvP content for you and how to use the fit to its full effect. If you're looking to get a bit of solo PvP under your belt and make some money at the same time with a ship that can punch up a little, check out his video as well:

Hunt for the Officers

Another recent addition was a new range of Officer Cruisers and Officer Frigates to New Eden. Okay, story time: I've encountered an officer in a belt once in my 21 years of playing, but it was purely by chance; but, admittedly, I've never searched for one specifically. When I saw it, I greeted it was a solid "Hmm", recognising the name as "That's the name of a mod I know.." then it dawned on me what it was! In a flurry of excitement, my heart racing, I charged in, woefully unprepared for the beating I was about to get. In case you didn't know, officer pirates have a habit of hitting pretty hard and can take the damage, too! Sadly, when I got back to where I had died, someone else had already swept in and scored the kill, but an important lesson was learnt that day. Don't be like CCP Zelus!
Checkout Rookieplays video, where he gives a breakdown of some of the existing and new Bloodraider spawns - there are other videos for other officers on his channel - check them out so you're not like me and can go in prepared with what you're getting involved with:

Eden Navigator

Last, we want to mention Eden Navigator, a new third-party app that caught our eye.

The autopilot in New Eden is a relatively simple tool for setting a destination and getting you to where you need to go under the specific criteria you feed into it. However, Eden Navigator is a powerful Navigation tool - not only does it check for gate camps by checking for kills on the route, telling you if they have bubbles or what ships are in the camp, but also re-routing you should you choose to do so, it also gives you extra route options depending on your ship size. So you can utilise shorter routes through Thera, Turnur, or even Pochven while still retaining the ability to avoid systems, add waypoints, and optimise! Its a great tool to get you to where you need to go whilst minimising the risk!

That's it for this edition of the Community Beat. From all of us here at CCP, we wish you Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you again in 2025!
